There are good Windows search tools already, and some of them are free. Here is an honest map of the landscape, what each kind is genuinely great at, and where BeaconFind fits. If one of the others is the right tool for you, use it. Several of them pair perfectly well with BeaconFind.
The fast filename indexers
There is a well-loved category of free tools that index your file names straight from the Windows file table and return them instantly as you type. They are superb at what they do, and if you know the name of your file, nothing is faster. Keep using one.
What they cannot do is look inside a file. They will not find the contract that mentions a €400 deposit unless “400” is in the file name, they cannot read a scanned PDF or a screenshot, and they cannot find a document by what it is about. That is the gap BeaconFind fills. The two are complementary: instant name lookup for when you remember the name, meaning-based search for when you don’t.
The launcher and quick-action tools
Another category gives you a fast pop-up bar to launch apps, run commands, do quick calculations, and look up files by name. They are excellent productivity keyboards. Cloud AI search
A newer wave adds AI search that genuinely understands meaning, but does it by uploading your files, or the text extracted from them, to a server. The results can be great.
